I can't believe how the time is flying! Maybe it is becaue we are having so much fun ( did someone whisper it is my age? Ha ha maybe).  Well all is well at this end, the guys are fit, well and enthusiastic.  Our younger dogs are now teenagers leaving Bruno the mini pug as the only puppy, our old guys are ticking along nicely and I am relieved to say they all seem to be ageing well.   This months news washeading to the beach to meet old friends and catch up with invincible Smurf the mini pony, he is available to hire although we are privaleged enough to be able to spend time with him for free.  I doubt you could find a steadier little horse and he loved having the gang playing on the beach with him.  Our cats are enjoying the usual loving and hugging they are used to and people still seem to be going away with same frequency.  Sam has been enjoying looking after three horses( seperately) and I know the owners have found it a huge relief to be able to book us at short notice.  Izzy the new van is a huge relief after Maddie or as I called her Jinxy, it will be a little while before she is sign written, first I want a nice heater fitted so the guys are as comfortable as normal heaven forbid they feel they have to slum it.  Good luck with the fireworks!

Aug 2009

Well who would have thought you could have so much fun taking photos of lots of hyper dogs.  Laura from Chamfron Photos came and spent two days with us and boy did we have fun.  The dogs loved the attention and behaved very well, its so much easier taking photos of dogs when you have control especially when you are doing posed shots, we still had the occassional closed eye shot.  One elusive shot will have to be tackled next time....Taggart with his ears up!

All photos can be seen on her website, I hope you like them we decided to do a whole range of photos and I could look at them all day if we didnt have plenty of more important things to do.

A favourite petsitting animal this month has been a bunny, shes so well trained and when you ask her to go to bed she leaves the garden hops in and then all you have to do is tuck her in.  We very sadly lost one of our old girls, Tigger has been a much loved Petnanny cat and my heart goes out to her owners when you have a kitty for 20yrs they leave a terrible hole behind.  I am so pleased to have had some cuddles time beforehand.

June 2009

Despite the current climate we have managed to weather through without a hitch, so far and firmly crossing our fingers of course, with all our customers doing well.  Not only is this great for us, it is also great for the dogs and all involved.  Sam and I have both had a lovely week's holiday to rest our well walked legs and now enjoying ourselves back were we belong.  The pussy cats we have looked after for years are still going strong which is fantastic with Tigger being well into her late teens.  Two of our longterm porky dogs have done us proud by losing most of their excess weight with extra praise for Charlie nn as he is looking and feeling fantastic.  Two more need to work on their weight as its year on year creeping up but with regular weigh ins we will get there in the end.

Slowly does it is the way I often go and I definately have been going slow when it came to sorting our links page, finally I have managed to get some of my favourite and recommended sites, if you would like to be added please let me know.

Welcome to our new girl Mila a rescued St Bernard, we are currently full with our dogs and a very happy band.  We want you to know who walks your guys, to know who is accountable and unlike many of our politicians and big businesses we are happy to keep it simple and personal.

I am personally looking forward to our photgraphers day we have very photoghenic animals!

May 2009

I certainly didn't expect such a fantastic response to our Eggstravaganza.  Not only did so many of you join in, the quality of the entered eggs was impressive.  There was the odd tragic one, I will of course save your blushes and not tell!  Needless to say the dogs were the ones who enjoyed it most devouring them with gusto and no squabbling of course.  I think we will have to do, now and again, another egg event just because they enjoyed it so much.  I was reminded of our easters as a child, rolling the eggs down the hills, I have to say the dogs were a lot faster than I used to be at catching them.

Our happy band have been enjoying the inclusion of the pups, it has done them the world of good to have some young blood to stir things up a little.  I often think life for the average dog can mean enduring long periods of boredom.  Walking and training all help to keep them occupied, if we can also provide a bit of social excitement a little out of the ordinary all the better.  We often spend most of our lifes trying to attain some stability and a sense of calm I think mainly because most of our working day is spent with little control over what happens.  For dogs I think they spend much of their day being restricted in some shape or form with little chance of social interaction with their own kind( we all can become a little grouchy if cooped up with our loved ones only) so a chance to mix in a secure, safe social enviroment must be music to their ears.

April 2009

Well Easter is nearly upon us, the lambs are looking seriously cute in their fields and yesterday I saw the first Swallow( 1st April)!  Our first event this year is going to be an eggstravaganza, this time not to raise money just for the sheer fun of it.  Decorated eggs thrown and then happily consumed by our dogs....Its nice to provide entertainement this time of year as we have to be more careful than normal as many, many animals and busy starting their families, they don't need our dogs hurting them.

I am pleased to hear our local councils are focussing on dog fouling at the moment it's just as unpleasant for us as it is for the general public so don't forget your poo bags!

March 2009

Well our new blog is up and running, the old blog will still be going but mostly will be just general information for everyone to see.  I am looking forward to enjoying the new feature and us sharing routines, moments and information and of course our dogs having fun.

February 2009

I can't believe we are already into the second month of 2009!  Well Petnanny is officially 11 years old, still providing a top class, dedicated service for a special group of pets in the north east.  We are getting quite a following and our supporters are as dedicated as we are.  Its hard to believe Sam hasn't been with Petnanny that long she is as much a part of the fittings as a transit van called Lily.

This year has certainly been entertaining weather wise and I am delighted to say we are still holding our clean record for getting to everyone.

I am intending to hold a 'try a dog sport day' later in the year which last year was unfortunately cancelled in part because of the horrible damp weather and also my slipped disc.  This day will allow all of us to try a new sport with our dogs with trainers to show us how its done and all in one area.  A taster of what we could be taking part in n the future.  We will also be doing another charity event raising money for air ambulance maybe fancy dress?  Any ideas will be gratefully recieved so get your thinking caps on!  I could do a three legged race with my guys but I would have an unfair advantage with my two three legged dogs dont you think?

December 2008

Christmas is fast approaching and this year everyone has been fantastic and booked in advance.

The Kennel Club Christmas Fair is up and running with three of my pictures 'LoveBug', 'Twinkle'  and 'Smartie', 'Smartie' was chosen to promote the Fair in the Kennel Gazette.  Prints are available of these pictures.  Check out my art Gallery to see them and some of the recent commissions I have been drawing.

My cards are currently a no show with only email cards going out, calendars may be a little late but better late than never.  Dogs( cats, guinea pigs etc etc) and the commissions come first then the rest follows!

All the very best for Christmas and 2009 I know of a few people who hope 2009 will shape up a bit more than 2008.  Despite my loss and aggaravation this year it will be remembered as my 10th year as Petnanny.

November 2008

Well Sam and I are working so well as a team, we now know each others ways and much like the dogs we are comfortable with each other.  We have had a couple of new additions and a couple of sad goodbyes, luckily our goodbyes are shortlived as I have visitation rights!  Little van Maddie is like a little mini me dressed up like Lily the Transit.  Its also now all penned out with her new mats and of course back windows we can't have our guys in a dark place now can we?  It is lovely to see, finally after three years, the two vans signwritten. I held back previously in case customers had a preference for an unmarked van after the questionnaire it was obviously this wasn't the case.

On a personal level I am delighted to say my old guys are still going strong Swift is 13, Buck a slightly senile 12  and Shy between 10 and 12.

With all the drama of the credit crunch we were battering down the hatches in readiness but there has been little back lash.  Yes we have had a couple of redundancies this happens anyway so we can't guarantee this is a direct cause.  We will hold off a price increase as our customers are being reliable with booking their dogs in and all importantly they are all reliable payers.

So chin up, I will be doing a money saving blog soon.

August 2008

Sam has embarked on her new career!  So far she has been meeting the guys, working out the routes and enjoying watching the guys showing off to the newbie.  A welcome addition to the Petnanny family she is already bring enthusiasm and a keen eye for dogs trying to have her on.

July 2008

I am delighted to say the results from the questionaire were very helpful.  Here is a brief run down of the results.

  • Petnanny customers valued the flexibility of the service provided over the 10 years.
  • Many mentioned they no longer felt guilty if they couldn't spend the time with their pet as they knew their pet would recieve attention from us as well as time spend with their friends.
  • Out of all customers everyone was happy to use a marked van and it was noted that some saw it as an advantage.  My other unmarked van was not seen as preferable.
  • Everyone was happy that their dogs benefitted from being out of the house learning, socialising and walking.
  • The service has, 99% of the time, improved their dogs behaviour.  The remainder were older dogs that were happy as they were!
  • The majority of customers chose the service because of the Nanny system, not just walking for a limited time.
  • All customers continue to use the service because it meets and exceeds their requirements.
  • All customers felt happy their dogs benefitted from the chance to socialise with safe dogs of all sizes and breeds and that this spilled over to their home life, enabling them to cope in most situations.
  • No customer had a downside to using Petnanny
  • Everyone wanted their dogs to have the chance to eliminate an hour or two after their walk and a good drink, they also felt the wind down period helped.
  • 100% said they felt completely happy using their Petnanny service
  • The support and advice available on request as well as an experienced eye watching over their pets was a valuable resource and one that was used regularly.
  • 80% felt that Petnanny helped to bridge the gap between vets and owners, trainers and behaviourists.
  • Most enjoyed the blog, enjoyed seeing their dogs out having fun.
  • Many customers mentioned they had thoroughly enjoyed joining us on a walk and of those who hadn't joined me they hoped to do so in the future when time permits.
  • Petnanny customers unanimously chose to have their dogs walking with other safe Petnanny dogs and wanted this to continue.
  • 99% felt there was nothing I could do to improve the service and 1% asked for minor changes that I am happy to undertake, thats what questionaires are for!

Thank you everyone for taking the time to let me know how you feel about the Petnanny service.

I think this illustrates the importance of taking on a dog walker that suits your individual needs.  There are many dog walkers who offer different types of services not one type is wrong or right, this allows you as an owner to choose what is best for you and your dog.   Whether you choose a dog walker who walks round  the local park with only your dog or who visits in your home the priority is that you know what they do, how they do it and that you take the dogs 'word' for it!  Good luck when choosing a dog walker, I am always happy to discuss your needs and if necessary help you find the carer to best suit your needs.

February 2008

What a turn out!  Pepes ristorante hosted the Petnanny 10 yrs celebration meal and we pretty much took over the whole restaurant, a good time was had by all and the service was very good as was the food.  It was fantastic to see a large group of people all getting on so well.  The best way to celebrate the anniversary with lots of dog talk and getting to know the faces that belonged to the dogs.

Thank you for joining in and being a part of it, to all who attended.

January 2008
